Eventually, those questions became characters. Those characters became stories.

My background in landscape architecture strongly shapes my writing. I pay close attention to setting because, to me, place is a character of its own. I began writing my first cozy mystery in my early thirties, combining my love of gardening with my lifelong obsession with mystery novels. The result was exactly the kind of story I most enjoy reading: warm, character-driven mysteries set in charming places where community matters, curiosity is encouraged, and justice eventually finds its way to the surface.

Through my books, I hope readers feel like they’ve stepped into a welcoming little town filled with flowers, friendships, and just enough intrigue to keep things interesting.

I’m a lifelong lover of gardens, stories, and the quiet magic that happens when the two come together.

Before I became a novelist, I worked as a landscape architect, designing outdoor spaces where people could slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature. I spent my days sketching garden beds, choosing perennials, studying soil and sunlight, and imagining how a space would change through the seasons. There’s something deeply satisfying about planting something small and watching it grow into something beautiful. In many ways, writing novels feels the same.

The idea to start writing came quietly but persistently. While working on landscape designs, I often found myself imagining the lives of the people who might walk those garden paths. Who owned the flower shop on the corner? Who planted the old roses behind the library? What secrets might be hidden in a quiet greenhouse after dark?

There's nothing so beautiful as a row of hydrangea bushes in full bloom. Then, they dry still in full bloom, and you can save them forever. Plus, hydrangeas change color pending on the acidity of the soil they're planted in. And as a mystery author, you can have a lot of fun with that....

There is no one more incomparable than Nancy Drew herself. I mean, she solved everything from theft to murder. Plus, she made it through so many decades, reinventing herself over and over again. I started reading these as a kid, and I never looked back. I was imagining mysteries from a young age!

When I'm trying to think of a story or slogging through long hours of editing, sugar cookies are what I reach for. I love them!

I can eat my weight in sugar cookies. And I'm not picky! Iced, plain, flavored, plain, whatever!

Kew Gardens, or the Royal Botanical Gardens, are some of the most beautiful and interesting gardens in the world. They have an incredible history that is wrapped into their design and the history of their garden species. If you get the chance to make it to England, it's a must see.

I love to travel and get to do so often. Since that means I write on the go, my Macbook goes everywhere.

Even more than caffeine, I need a hit of sugar while I work. Sugar cookies are my snack of choice.

Home grown tomatoes are the prize of any vegetable garden. I always have a section in my garden for them.

Gardens need inhabitants, so I always include bird feeders and bee baths in my garden designs.
